7 Things Mumbaikars are missing about Mumbai in the lockdown

Kasa kay Mumbaikar? It has been almost 4-5 months now since we have been locked-up in lockdown and yes, it is for our own good. Nonetheless, there are so many amazing things about this city that we have been missing out a lot, lately.

So we just went ahead and curated a list of the 7 major things that we miss about Mumbai right now and are sure you are missing them too!

It seems like ages since someone asked me to scoot to sit the fourth seat or said, “Beta kahan utaroge ap?Apka seat mujhe de dena, haan.” People literally push you inside the train even when they know there is no space. It is hard to accept that we are missing the nightmarish, dhakkamukki and sweaty armpits - that went on at every station, in every train, peak hour or not!

I cannot even recollect the last time I took an auto to travel from place A to B. I have seen so many auto wale bhaiya/kaka readily ferrying passengers without an if or a but. Previously, whenever I needed an auto, I knew that I had exactly 3 seconds to pitch him into ferrying me to the destination, and a ‘yes’ from them was like achievement unlock wali feeling. There is no pressure anymore. Hellooo, I miss asking, ’bhaiya, Andheri chaloge?’ and having him give me a lame excuse or just ignore me right on to my face.

Where are the times when we could discuss life over a cutting? I want to have a break from work wherein I just go to the nearest tapri and bitch about my colleagues with my colleagues. I do need a break from work wherein I do not have to go to my kitchen, prepare my chai and then CLEAN THE UTENSILS TOOOOO, and no thikat, Vada Pav to go along with it!

The city is known predominantly for its vibrant nightlife and the streetlights beautifying the Arabian Sea at night. Wandering on the streets here has never felt unsafe. The city never makes you feel secluded no matter what time you step out. I do not want night curfews. I want to go out, sit on the promenade and look at the lights that brighten the dark sea and get hypnotised by the constantly crashing waves. Good news is the curfew is going to end sooooon.

Mumbai or Bumbaiii (I love to call it this way) houses more than 40 types of cuisines. The streets of Mumbai have seen the major experiments when it comes to food. We have the mastery of desi-dying literally every food dish. Be it Chinese, Assamese, North Indian, Mughalai, Chaat and so much more. Sorry guys, I cannot go on, my mouth starts watering, okay?

Even though we have all made our peace with the home deliveries and watching movies on our TVs or smartphones but let’s just admit that all of us are low-key missing out the fun we could have when we would visit the big screen, watch our favourite actor say his signature dialogue, shed a tear or laugh our heart out and majorly, awaken our inner movie buzz each time we would visit the theatre. If you are a true Mumbaikar, you would rather watch the ads in the interval and visit the loo instead of queueing up at the popcorn counter. It used to be a picnic for me. Going to watch a movie and then dining out was the perfect definition for an ideal weekend for so many of us. How has it changed to cleaning the house and changing the bedsheets now??

Hustle and Bustle of the city

    Entertainment, Stay at Home

A city that keeps going 24*7. We are known for our spirit of going on despite all the adversities. We are the ones that would rush over from the slow train platform to the fast train platform when need be. We multitask. We hustle. We keep going on. We overcrowd places. We get things done. We catch trains even when they are filled up to their capacity. We board buses even when there is space to only place one leg on the board. Most of all, WE DO NOT GIVE UP. We rise each day, plan our Olympic Obstacle Race on the tracks of Mumbai City and we keep going on. We simply miss it!
